Cyrus Jirongo, one of the principals of One Kenya Alliance has said that the alliance will make it difficult for ODM leader Raila Odinga to be a presidential candidate in case he joins them.
Speaking at an interview with a local TV station, the former Lugari MP noted that Raila is welcomed to join the alliance but will find it difficult the be the outfit’s flag bearer in the 2022 presidential election. He noted that OKA is determined to field a candidate out of the three current principals – Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Moses Wetangula.
“As OKA, we are willing to work with Raila but if he joins us, it will be very difficult for him to be our flag bearer,” he said in an interview with K24 TV.
Jirongo’s statement comes a week after Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka asked Raila to retire from politics and go home with President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the 2022 elections.
In another interview, Kalonzo noted that he would be “stupid” to support Raila for the presidency for the third time.
Kalonzo claimed that he was humiliated under the NASA outfit together with Mudavadi and Wetangula, and would not consider teaming up with Raila again.
The former vice president has always insisted that 2022 is his time to run for the presidency and if Raila wants to join him, he should be ready to support him instead.
Same as Kalonzo, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has also maintained that it is his time to lead the country.
Mudavadi noted that he will not support Raila for the Presidency in 2022 noting that the ODM leader had betrayed their deal under the NASA coalition.
He noted that Raila promised them (NASA principals) that the 2017 presidential attempt was his last and he would support another principal in the subsequent elections but he has failed to honor that.
As the OKA principals maintain that they will not support Raila, the former Primer has been moving around the country trying to form new alliances with other regional leaders.
