Rio Ave bounced back from a tough 3-0 loss to Desportivo Aves in the second round of Taca da Liga’s group stage. They demolished a third-division outfit Torreense 1-5 on the road on Sunday to advance to the fourth round of Taca da Portugal.
The team led by Jose Gomes did well in latest Primeira Liga fixtures. They won three and drew one of last four league matches and will come into weekend’s clash with Chaves high on confidence aiming to keep such fine form going.
The visitors were also successful in their respective Taca da Portugal tie against the lower-division side after the international break. However, they have been playing hit and cold in the league. A fine run which saw the 1-2 away win at Boavista and a 2-2 draw to heavyweights Benfica was interrupted by a 1-0 defeat to recently-promoted Santa Clara in the previous round.
Rio Ave vs Chaves: Head-to-head
The draw was the most frequent of outcomes in the history of head to head games between the two teams.
Almost half of 23 H2H games ended without a winner (11).
Vilacondenses took 9 wins, while Chaves only managed to dispatch Rio Ave on three occasions.
Both teams scored a goal in all of last six head to head affairs.
Rio Ave vs Chaves: Prediction
Looking at team’s recent performances, we would not be surprised to see the continuation of a BTTS trend in their H2H matches. Each of last six league games Rio Ave played saw goals at both ends. Knowing that Chaves managed to find the back of the net twice against both Boavista and Benfica recently, the “Both Teams to Score” is a must-take bet at the 1.66 odds here.
We also find the value in backing Rio Ave to win at 1.95. Vilacondenses are impeccable in front of the home crowd so far in the season. They won each of three Primeira Liga games in Vila do Conde, conceding a goal in all of victories along the way.
