We are pleased to announce that Sportpesa will be back as soon as Monday next week.Since the beginning of the week we have been keenly following events in the betting industry and one thing we noticed is that the telecom industry submitted a report to the government concerning revenue drops ,the government was chocked. According to estimates, if Sportpesa and the major players in the industry will not be allowed to operate, Safaricom alone could lose up to Ksh 20 billion in revenues, which means taxes submitted to the government will fall significantly.
Since the beginning of last week, the government has been clearing betting sites and already Betway, Cheza Cash and Mozzartbet have been cleared. Next week, Sportpesa and more than 15 other betting companies will be cleared. By the end of September, all the betting sites which were closed by Matiangi would have been reinstated.
The worrying part is that Sportpesa will be forced to deduct the 20% winning tax until parliament reviews it. But the positive side is that punters will be allowed to bet without interruptions.
One thing that will force the government to reinstate Sportpesa’s paybill is that no company has offered to sponsor Gor Mahia ,AFC Leopards and the Kenyan Premier League, the league is starting next week. If Sportpesa is not allowed back, there will be total chaos.
