Reliable sources inform us that Sportpesa and Betin are planning to launch new betting sites after it emerged that some of the betting sites whose paybill numbers were closed have resurfaced.
The government keeps frustrating Sportpesa even after the company met most of the conditions required by the government. The worst case happened for Betin which even lost its domain name. But the two companies will not just sit and witness other betting companies like Shabiki, Odibets and Betika flourishing, they will have decided to come up with new strategies—to launch new sites.
We have been following various betting sites whose websites were closed and we were shocked to find out that Betpawa has come up with a new site by the name Bet254.If you look at the site, you won’t spot any difference with Betpawa. We are also being informed that more than 10 other betting companies will launch new websites and register with Betting Board.
To launch a new betting site, all that’s required is to acquire a new paybill number plus a new company name, then register with betting and licensing board, the infrastructure is already available. If Sportpesa and Betin manage to do so, then the government will lose the Ksh 61 billion tax it has been chasing for.
What we are sure of is that the intention of the government was not to kill gambling in Kenya but to frustrate leading betting sites. If the intention was to help youths against gambling, why are new betting sites getting registered each and every day? We are sure if Sportpesa comes up with another betting company, it will again dominate.
